About Ruth Mykoo

A Passion to Support Others

My ambitions to become a Counsellor was fostered many years ago as I wanted to make a difference and help others.  I passionately believe that we should lead our lives the best way we can, be proud of who we are and to always believe in what we are capable of.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked in an educational setting for fourteen years working with children ages from 4 to 11 years of age.

Now, as a fully qualified Psychotherapist, I draw on different theories to support your individual needs. In addition, I am a Trauma Informed Therapist with experience of working with childhood trauma and survivors of sexual abuse, and I also work with EAP companies offering workplace counselling.

I have also trained as an EMDR Therapist (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing). This is a specialist and powerful approach to help heal from either troubling life experiences or deep-rooted trauma which are impacting your day-to-day life.  It helps by processing specific memories which then alleviate the emotional distress associated with it.

I am an Accredited Registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy which is the Ethical Framework that underpins my work with clients and have an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check for your peace of mind.
